PHP Warning: “open_basedir restriction in effect”.
Latest update: February 1, 2017 | Reading time: 1 to 2 minutesWhat’s the problem?
After theme installation, you receive PHP Warning similar to:
is_readable() [function.is-readable]: open_basedir restriction in effect. File(G:PleskVhostssome-domain.com /wp-content/plugins/G:/PleskVhosts/ some-domain.com / wp-content/themes/cleanstart/assets/wp-less/i18n/wp-less-en_US.mo) is not within the allowed path(s): (G:/PleskVhosts// some-domain.com ;C:WindowsTemp) in G:PleskVhosts some-domain.com wp-includesl10n.php on line 471
At the same time, most probably your uploads are not working either.
Why is this happening?
Web hosting provider is the case here. On 99% of the cases, this is an issue comes up with IIS Web Servers that are configured with a open_basedir directive. This is a security feature some web administrators apply, that allows access to effective directories solely to owner.
What to do now?
Send this error (copy/paste the exact text) to your web hosting support and request an exception for the folder that restricts access to theme or related plugins.
Normally, they know what to do and they should assist you without problems. However, if they are not willing to do so, you should try deactivate the plugin (if the error comes up from a plugin AND is possible to deactivate it), otherwise you should really consider changing your host OR switch to a non IIS server solution (i.e. Apache).
Unfortunately, Plethora Themes cannot do something more about it.
